Cruise along with happy dolphins around beautiful Hilton Head (awesome things to do with kids)
Posted By ShoutCarolina,Date: 08.09.2008The ad was right. We had almost 2 hours of total relaxation, fun with the kids, and even a rescue excitement! And yes we saw dolphins. Cute flippers swimming and jumping along with the boats happy to put on a show.
To spot dolphins and other wildlife I don’t think it matter which cruise or nature tour you use. They all go pretty much the same way just the departure Marina is different (around Hilton Head island then on the incredible peaceful Calibogue Sound, up to Intracoastal Waterway and then up close to Daufuskie Island). Prices will differ based on the ship size, time of the day and duration, and if there is a specialty (sunset or fireworks) or a theme-based cruise (like shark fishing, crabbing etc).
Our tickets on the Adventure Cruise (departing from Shelter Cove Marina) were $21 adults and $12 children (kids 2 years and under go free). Vagabond and Spirit of the Harbour cruises (departing from the Harbour Town Marina near Sea Pines resort) have adult tickets at $29 and respectively $56 (Spirit takes you to Savannah and claims to be the biggest and only air conditioned cruise boat in Hilton Head). Shark fishing cruises go for almost $500 for half a day. Eco-friendly guided kayak tours go for mid to high $20s.
Here are the Adventure Cruise highlights and details on what to expect on the nature tour.
More fun kids activities in and around Hilton Head:
• See live Civil War era cannon and musket firing demonstrations, become a Junior Ranger and learn about the stories of the Immortal 600 and The Waving Girl at historic Fort Pulaski near Savannah (about an hour drive from Hilton Head)
• Live the fairy tale and bond with your kids in the modern Hilton Head Public Library
• Visit few of the legendary lighthouses on the South Carolina and Georgia coasts
• Spend a magical day inside Sea Pines Resort and Forest Preserve and enjoy western style horseback riding, eco kayak tours, water skiing, parasailing and biking. Visit the 4,000 years old mysterious Indian Shell Ring, the ghost haunted Baynard Ruins and the Harbour Town Lighthouse.
