Posted By ShoutCarolina,Date: 10.20.2008

What a wonderful world inside CMSC! Moms, dads and grandparents let your kids imagination go wild at the most magical place in Myrtle Beach. Over 8,000 square feet of interactive exhibits to have fun, express yourself and indulge your curiosity. Admission it’s only $7, lot less than the commercially scripted themed parked along the Grand Strand.

Some of the things to play with at CMSC

• Be a mayor for a day: generate power to run a city and build your own electric circuits

• Hunt for Brazilian gemstones in a water flume. Finders keepers!

• Ride the magic school bus and test your science skills along the way. Find out how much you weigh on Mars, Juniper, Saturn and all other planets!

• The Doctor is in at the Kids Medical Center! Nothing like taking your grandpa’s pulse or your mom’s teeth X-ray. Learn how to take appointments, use a real X-ray machine and conduct a full body medical check-up.

• Colors, glue, scissors, beads unite at the Art Center. Here’s your chance to get creative. We did an awesome black cat magnet honoring the upcoming Halloween. Boo!…

• Gimme some cheese with that pizza please! Get moving with the Papa John’s pizza delivery truck and learn about fractions along the way.

• Be a ship captain on the incredible USS Kids-a-float, the most adventurous exhibit in South Carolina!

Tips to know before you go

1. Best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon. On Thursdays the museum is open till 6 PM.

2. No food an drinks are allowed inside the museum. You’ll easily spend couple of hours inside, better go after a hearty meal.

3. CMSC has a dedicated very spacious room for babies and toddlers. It’s nice you don’t have to be in it to safely watch the little ones…you can do so more comfortably from the benches on the hallway or the pizza truck exhibit. Other popular spots for young kids are the Animal Puppet Theater and Cabin and the Discovery classroom. Here you can observe small animals, birds, fish and turtles.

4. Once you had enough of being a human “guinea pig” at the Kids Medical Center, or your belly is full after all that pizza and or you’re seasick, or worse, can’t even get out of the Kids-a-float, find some peace and quiet in the books corner. There are some fascinating stories in there (my favorite was the modern fables collection “Squids will be squids” by Jon Scieszka).

5. The Children Museum is close to Broadway at the Beach, so you can do both in a single day.

Where, hours and admission

Hours are Tuesday to Saturday 10 AM - 4 PM (on Thursday open till 6 PM). Closed on all major holidays. From Memorial Day till Labor Day is also open on Mondays.
